Rain Clears As Evening Starts Off with novice Comp
02.11.08
Friday started out to be a rather inclement day, however, by late afternoon the rain had cleared and we were fortunate to be able to take to a dry Track.
Racing cannot take place if it is raining as it makes the track extremely slippery and too dangerous to compete on.  The evening started off with the Novice Grade competing in a two lap pursuit with Liam Matacin-O'Neill crossing the line in first place, followed closely behind by Chloe Hellowell in second place.  Marko Matacin-O'Neill, who rides in the BMX category, competed in a timed lap and came in with a time of one minute and 15 seconds.
The Junior B's were up next with an eight lap race.  Charlotte Wakeling finished in first place, followed by Sam Campbell, Liza Wakeling and Richard Engelke.  Junior A's competed in a 10 lap scratch race with Jai Sutton taking out line honours.  He was followed by Pierce Sutton in second place, Dylan Starkey in third and Melissa Drogemuller finishing in fourth place.
Both the Vets and Senior A's competed in 12 lap scratch races.  The Vets race was won by Peter Werner, with Adrian Wilson, Nick Hellowell and Gary Carpenter unable to catch him.  In the Seniors race, first and second place were hotly contested by the Anderson Brothers.  Darren Anderson was able to cross the line before his brother Daniel Anderson with Tim Fulton coming in third.
The next Novices one lap handicap saw C. Hellowell take the race out from L. Matacin-O'Neill.  Scott Litchfield took out first place in his one lap handicap race against M. Matacin-O'Neill.  Junior B two lap handicap was won by D. Starkey who rode from scratch (0m), with R. Engelke (80m), L. Wakeling (30m), Sam Campbell (20m) and C. Wakeling (10m) finishing in that order.  The Vets two lap handicap saw P. Werner on scratch (0m), N. Hellowell (10m), G. Carpenter (30m) and A. Wilson (40m), G. Carpenter came in first with A. Wilson second and followed by P. Werner and N. Hellowell.
Junior A's two lap handicap saw Emma Mardon (50m), cross the line first followed by P. Sutton (10m), M. Drogemuller (30m), J. Sutton (0m) and D. Starkey (15m).  Senior A's three lap handicap was again hotly contested by the Anderson brothers.  Darren Anderson (10m) was able to hold off his brother Daniel Anderson (0m) as they crossed the line.  They were followed in by R. Carpenter (30m), N. Goldring (95m), R. Ware (40m) and T. Fulton (20m).
The Novice and BMX riders again took to the track with L. Matacin-O'Neill beating C. Hellowell to the line.  M. Matacin-O'Neill was able to take out his race with S. Litchfield in hot pursuit.  Junior boys two lap handicap saw P. Sutton (5m) take out the race from his brother J. Sutton (0m).  Third place went to S. Campbell (70m), with D. Starkey (20m) fourth, Dylan Fewster (45m) fifth and R. Engelke (100m) in sixth place.  Junior Girls two lap handicap saw N. Goldring (0m) take out line honours with M. Drogemuller (10m) second, C. Wakeling (60m) third, E. Mardon (20m) fourth and L. Wakeling (70m) finishing fifth.  Senior riders then took to the track to compete in an elimination race.  T. Fulton was successful in crossing the line first with Darren Anderson, R. Ware, Daniel Anderson, P. Werner, N. Goldring and R. Carpenter finishing in that order.
The last three races for the night saw the Junior B's 10 lap scratch race taken out by D. Starkey followed by S. Campbell, C. Wakeling and L. Wakeling.  The Junior A 12 lap scratch was taken out by J. Sutton with P. Sutton second and D. Fewster third.  E. Mardon and M. Drogemuller were lapped and finished fourth and fifth respectively.  The Senior A Grader's 20 lap scratch race saw T. Fulton finish first with R. Carpenter and R.
