Fulton Easily Takes Out Event
07.12.08
The warm weather on Friday and the slight breeze meant a fast track for cycling on Friday night with some good sprint finishes.  Darren Anderson, Tim Fulton and Ryan Ware lifted the pace as they got the last lap bell in the Senior A Grade 12 lap scratch race.  Although Nicole Goldring tried to go with them she lost contact off the back and was unable to get back on.  Fulton was first to the line to easily take out the event from Ware, Anderson and Goldring.
A good pace was set from the start of the Vets 10 lap scratch race with Peter Werner making a move and a slight break on the bunch as they came down the back straight a lap and a half from the finish.  They had closed the gap in the final lap and Keith Gibbons again used the back straight to make his move towards the front of the bunch to be level with Werner as they came around the bank into the home straight.  Werner unfortunately suffered a mechanical failure and couldn't contest the final sprint with Gibbons first followed by Adrian Wilson, Werner and Nick Hellowell.
The riders in the Senior B Grade 10 lap scratch race kept together until the bell when Pierce Sutton and Dylan Starkey began to sprint with Melissa Drogemuller unable to match their pace and Sutton breaking away from Starkey.  Starkey tried to reel in Sutton but Sutton was too strong and easily took out the event from Starkey and Drogemuller.
In the Junior A Grade eight lap scratch race Jarrod Hamilton made his move from the back of the bunch after the bell around the outside to take the lead and finish first with Sam Campbell only just ahead of Charlotte Wakeling.  They crossed the line ahead of Liza Wakeling and Jessica Shore.
Justin Burke began his sprint on the bell in the Junior B Grade three lap scratch race with Teagan Wood struggling to stay in touch with him and Burke held the lead to the line.
Corey Gibbons (15m) rode a strong race in the Novice one lap handicap to finish first from Liam Matacin-O'Neil (30m) and Chloe Hellowell (0m).  BMX rider Marko Matacin-O'Neil completed his one lap dash in a time of one minute 12.82 seconds.
A round of handicap races followed and Goldring (110m) made the most of her handicap in the Senior A Grade race to hold off the rest of the field to the line.  K Gibbons (0m) again showed his speed to reel in the other Vet riders ad take out their 2 lap event.
In the Senior B Grade two lap handicap Sutton (0m) had his work cut out to reel in Starkey (40m) and Drogemuller (80m) but couldn't quite do it finishing third five metres behind Starkey.  Drogemuller was first to the line 15 metres ahead of Starkey.
In the Junior A Grade two lap handicap Hamilton (0m) was the only rider to bridge the gap to the next rider with Shore (80m) first from L Wakeling (60m), C Wakeling (45m), Hamilton and Campbell (40m).
Burke crossed the line a bike length ahead of Wood (50m) in the Junior B Grade two lap handicap while in the combined Novice and BMX one lap race M Matacin-O'Neil (180m) just held off C Hellowell (40m), C Gibbons (0m) and L Matacin-O'Neil (20m).
