Ware Catches Them Napping
06.03.09
The first event of the evening saw the senior A riders setting a fast pace in their 20 lap heart starter.  They stayed together until just after the half way mark, when Ben Young sprinted to the front to take a 5m lead. The pack slowly drew him back in again. With two laps to go Ryan Ware caught them all napping at the 200m sprint line and took off, committing himself to two very fast laps. By the time the rest of the riders realised what had happened, Ware had put a lot of distance between them and himself. He was able to take line honours ahead of Malcolm Clasohm, B Young and Rhyse Carpenter.
A very exciting race with a good tactical ride by Ware.

The senior B graders were next with a 15-lap scratch race. Another fast race which saw a split in the field.
Jai Sutton crossed the line first with Keith Gibbons, Nicole Goldring, Dylan Starkey and Peter Werner finishing in that order.

The masters 15-lap scratch race saw the riders staying well together until the 12th lap when Kelvin Rohrlach upped the pace. He was able to finish ahead by 25m with Adrian Wilson, Gary Carpenter and Darryl Fulton taking the minor placings.

In their next race a two lap handicap, G Carpenter (scratch rider) pulled his foot and was unable to finish the race. A Wilson crossed the line first with Jarrod Hamilton hot on his wheels coming in second.

Junior A's had a 10-lap scratch race with Sam Campbell, who is showing great improvement in his racing coming in first. He was followed by Liza Wakeling in second, Charlotte Wakeling in third and Jessica Shore in fourth place.

The junior A 2-lap handicap saw Jessica Shore (40m) setting the pace. Chasing her were Sam Campbell (Scratch), Liza Wakeling (5m) and Charlotte Wakeling (20m). C Wakeling was able to catch Shore before the line to finish ahead of her with S Campbell and L Wakeling coming in third and fourth.

Jarrod Hamilton (scratch) blitzed the field in their next 2-lap handicap race.
With J Shore second, C Wakeling third, S Campbell fourth and L Wakeling fifth.

Justin Burke in the junior Bs took off on the bell in their 6-lap scratch race and was able to hold off Dana Prater and Tegan Wood.

In the 2-lap handicap race J Burke was again able to hold of D Prater and T Wood.

Timed laps for Scott Litchfield saw him clocking times of 44.47 seconds and 47.30 seconds.

The novice 4-lap scratch race saw Jacob Hughes and Corey Gibbons fighting for the lead. J Hughes took out the race with C Gibbons, Bailey Kesby and Ryan Bodinner following in that order.

In their one lap handicap race they were joined by S Litchfield (120m). R Bodinner (60) rode well to overtake him on the home straight and take line honours. They were followed closely behind by B Kesby, C Gibbons and J Hughes.

A 10-lap mixed A and B teams event was hotly contested. With the A team working well together and only losing one rider. B team had their work cut out for them as two of their riders dropped off leaving only three members to complete the race. Team A, which consisted of B Young, K Gibbons, R Ware, D Starkey and N Goldring, were the eventual winners.

The final race of the night was a 40-lap all in race. A steady pace was held until the 32 lap mark when the riders decided to up the pace. R Carpenter took off with six laps to go and was able to hold a 30m break. With three laps to go R Ware, M Clasohm and B Young reeled him in. On the bell lap M Clasohm took off and crossed the line with B Young, R Ware and R Carpenter following close behind.
