Paterson in Fine Form
23.05.09

After finishing with the main bunch last week in his first race of the season, Neil Paterson rode well again this week to narrowly cross the line first in his sprint with Adrian Wilson.

At least six local cyclists were racing away this weekend in Berri, which saw the program change to the Seniors racing eight laps of the 'Mad Mile'.

Paul Waring, Dylan Starkey, Keith Gibbons and Bob Monaghan were off first, however Gibbons struggled to stay with his group due to an injury and was forced to pull out after three laps.

Peter Werner, also carrying an injury, lost contact with Paterson and Wilson (11 minutes) leaving them to slowly reel in the group in front which they did with two laps to go.

Starkey jumped on the back as Wilson and Paterson passed and managed to stay with them until they
lifted the pace to begin the sprint for the line, but did well to come in third behind Paterson and Wilson.

Monaghan and Waring were vying for fourth place in their sprint for the line with Warings wheel just in front at the finish and Werner sixth.

With the blustery dusty conditions out on the course the juniors and novices did not race, but instead honed some of their skills on the Velodrome before going out on a training ride.
