Time Trial Starts Road Season
30.05.09
Whyalla Cycling Club held its first event of the Road Championship
Series, a time trial, on Saturday along the Iron Knob Road.
Jessica Shore (U19W), Nicole Goldring (U17W) and Tim Fulton (U17M)
put in strong rides over the 15km distance, but were uncontested in
their categories and took out maximum points for this event.
The U15 Men raced over 10km with Jai Sutton fastest over the
distance 38 seconds ahead of Dylan Starkey, while Sam Campbell was
third. For many riders in both the U13 and U11 categories this
was their first road season and championship event with the riders
giving their best effort. About 30 seconds separated the first
two places in the U13 mixed 5km race with Justin Burke first from
Jacob Hughes, Connor Margaritis and Chloe Hellowell. The U11s
completed 3kms with Nathan Balkwill completing the distance in
7:09.89 minutes, followed by Corey Gibbons (7:35.62) and Chris
Margaritis (8:37.26).
The seniors brought out their fastest bikes with time trial bars
fitted to give them a more aerodynamic position for their events.
C Grade were timed over 20kms with Darryl Fulton setting the fastest
time of 36:53.33 minutes, and there was only half a second
seperating third and fourth.
B Grade rider Steve Brown easily took out the 30km event by a minute
throwing down the challenge to the rest of his grade for the next
two championship events while Rhyse Carpenter showed his good form
in taking out the A Grade 30km race.
