Local cyclists travelled to Stirling North on Saturday for the start of their handicap races through Pichi Richi Pass.  The seniors and one junior raced to Quorn and return while the novices started 10km from Stirling North.  Some of the seniors found the different terrain of their 63.6km race challenging while the novices were in awe of their speed down the hill towards the finish.

None of the novices, who were sent off individually, caught the rider in front of them although the gaps were closed considerably by the time they reached Stirling North and unfortunately Connor Margaritis was forced to retire with a puncture.

Chris Margaritis (0 min) put in a strong effort with Heather Cutting managing to close the two minute gap by only 20 seconds over the 10km distance while Corey Gibbons (7 min) pace halved Heather's lead on him.
Scratch rider Justin Burke (12 min 30 sec), set a steady pace as he began the task of reeling in the rest of the field and was closing fast on Jacob Hughes (11 min) in the final stages, but Jacob held him off to finish fourth with Justin finishing with the fastest time.

Sam Campbell was the only junior rider and started his race as Hayden Gill and Bob Monaghan (0 min) came into view 20kms into the senior race.  Nicole Goldring, off nine mins, broke away from Paul Waring and Peter Werner as they started, set a steady rhythm and slowly reeled in Gary Carpenter, Darryl Fulton and Keith Gibbons who were off four minutes and had separated on the first few hills.  Goldring then set her sights on the front markers and picked up Monaghan, Gill and Campbell with Gill losing contact with the group just before the turn around at Quorn.  Monaghan and Campbell couldn't maintain her pace on the return and she broke away in her quest to reach the finish first.

The hills split most of the groups with Ryan Ware (24 min) taking the opportunity to break away from Darren Anderson while Tim Fulton (27 min) dropped Wil Symons, Steve Brown, Adrian Wilson and Neil Paterson.  Scratch rider Rhyse Carpenter, who was recovering from a cold, couldn't match the pace set by Malcolm Clasohm leaving Clasohm to reel in the rest of the field on his own.  Ware suffered at set back in the form of a flat tyre, but luckily had a spare and was soon on his way again but had been passed by the back markers.  G. Carpenter retired before Quorn and D. Fulton joined him a few kilometres after he had turned and headed for Stirling North.  Paterson, Clasohm, Wilson, Brown, Anderson and T. Fulton reached speeds of over 60kms/hr on the return as they reeled in the riders in front.

Goldring's lead was enough to see her take out the event while Monaghan worked hard to keep second place 3kms from the finish with the group behind closing quickly.  When he was caught within the final kilometre, he jumped on the back as they passed.  Brown was first to make the move in the sprint, but Clasohm was stronger and led this group across the line to claim the fastest time.  Clasohm finished in second place ahead of Paterson, Anderson, Wilson, Brown, T. Fulton and Monaghan.
