Cyclists in Relay Teams
04.07.09
Quite a few riders were away competing in Port Pirie on the weekend.  It was a race with a difference on Saturday for those racing locally when the cyclists were divided into four teams made up of riders from all grades for a teams relay around the Mad Mile circuit.

The race was over six laps with the teams working out how many laps each rider would do and the order they would race with the only stipulation being that all riders had to complete at least one lap.

Many of the senior riders chose to ride alongside the novices on their lap to give them encouragement while also completing two laps of their own with two of the teams close as they began the final lap.  Paul Waring, Justin Burke, Chris Margaritis and Heather Cutting as well as Ben Young, Jessica Shore, Nathan Balkwill and Ethan Burke chose to have their senior rider do the final lap, which proved to be a good tactic for Young's team.

Connor Margaritis for Nick Hellowell, Tegan Wood and Chloe Hellowell was first to begin the sixth lap with Jacob Hughes starting not long after, cheered on by the rest of this team, Corey Gibbons, Dana Prater and Keith Gibbons.

Young's team was in third place as he began the final lap and set out to reel in the two riders in front of him catching Jacob by the entrance into the golf course on the Mad Mile and Connor centimetres from the line to narrowly take out the event.
