Junior Cyclist Wins Sports
Scholarship
06.07.09
Name:
Nicole Goldring.
Age: 15.
Sport: Cycling.
This is Goldring's sixth year on the pedals in the track and field
sport, and she has been pushing herself hard. "When I first
started I always lost, I've only just started reaching my peak,"
Goldring said. She has got plenty of medals, but Goldring's
significant achievement was taking third place in the 2008
individual pursuit at the Adelaide super drome.
The under 17s athlete is ranked fourth in the State and also came
seventh at the nationals competition last year. But success
comes at a cost and Goldring couldn't be more grateful for the
scholarship. "I was pretty stoked, not many people get it,"
Goldring said.
"It was also a big confidence gain knowing that I've been recognised.
"All my training's paying off."
She said she would give her parents the $600 to pay back costs of
travel and accommodation to Adelaide events. Goldring wants to
move to Adelaide upon finishing school and hopes to one day
represent Australia in the track pursuit
