The senior A grade 30 lap scratch race
saw tight riding by a group of riders with race fitness starting to
shine through. Tim Fulton, with his Adelaide training sessions under
the belt kept them on their toes by constantly attacking. Dylan
Starkey, keeping him honest by bringing the field back time and
again, plus the experience of Rhyse Carpenter, the Anderson boys
Darren and Daniel, with the tenacious riding of Ryan Ware and the
intelligent riding of Jai Sutton, the only thing stopping him
getting away with a top win. The sprint was a ripper, won by a
flying Rhyse Carpenter, from an all out effort by Sutton in second
place and Daniel Anderson third, with Fulton fighting out for fourth
from Starkey, Darren Anderson and Ware.
The combined B and C grade elimination race saw strong performances
from the field, with riders taking up the full width of the track in
the sprints to the line. Amongst the action was Adrian Wilson
having his first ride of the season and showing he’ll be saluting
the crowd in no time at all. The final sprint for first place
between ‘trackies’ Keith Gibbons and Peter Werner was a beauty, with
Gibbons holding off Werner on the final bend to just hit the line in
front. Nick Hellowell was third from Paul Waring, Nicole Goldring,
Jemilly Kade, Darryl Fulton, Adrian Wilson and Pierce Sutton.
The elimination excitement continued with the Junior A grade race
just as competitive. Jessica Shore hit her straps to pull off a
great win in beating the speedy Jacob Hughes in the race for the
line. With the Wakeling twins Liza and Charlotte giving it
everything to finish third and fourth respectively.
Our Junior B grade riders are proving each week they can turn it on
and turn it on they did again in the 2 lap Handicap race. With Chloe
Hellowell out the front of Bailey Kesby the pace was on from the get
go. Dana Prater worked hard to chase Cory Gibbons on the first lap,
but Cory Gibbons was having none of that. Conner Margeritis off
scratch and Justin Burke off chopping block rode with passion to
wind them all in. Burke finishing just ahead of Margeritis, with
determined Kesby ahead of Gibbons for third and Prater, working hard
to beat Hellowell.
The 24” riders keep on entertaining us each week with their gutsy
performances and Friday night was no exception. The 4 lap handicap
was a cracker, with the speed on flat out all the way. Newcomer
Hudson Barsby gave it all and led from Heather Cutting and Leyton
Gould, with scratchie Chris Margeritis working hard and fast to rein
them in. Gould caught Cutting on the last lap and the two of them
fought it out to stay ahead of Margeritis, but to no avail. A
jubilant Mageritis finishing first, with Gould, Cutting and Barsby
taking out the minor placings Great stuff!
Perennial favourite of the spectators at the velodrome Scott
Litchfield found himself giving away a huge 40m in the Novice 1 lap
dash to Sebastian Hubner. A tough ask, as Hubner likes to go flat
out. Litchfield rode a great race never backing off for one second ,
but Hubner was determined not to get caught and finished ahead of
Litchfield
The ‘wee minis,’ Natalie and Jacob Anderson displayed fantastic
courage in their ˝ lap dash. Despite the ages of these children,
they performed with a racers will to win and gave no quarter in the
fight to the line. The crowd rose to greet them both as Jacob
finished ahead of Natalie.
