Fierce Fit Riders
11.12.09
There
was some fierce competition among the Senior A Grade riders at the
Velodrome on Friday night with the improvement in race fitness
showing in the fast steady pace set from the start of each race.
Tim Fulton attacked with four laps to go in both the opening and the
last scratch races but the rest of the bunch responded immediately
in the first race and Rhyse Carpenter had a 10 metre lead over
Daniel Anderson and Fulton as they began the final lap and they
finished in this order.
When Fulton attacked in the last race it was a whole lap before any
of the others began the chase but Carpenter and Daniel had left it
too late with Fulton crossing the line 25 metres in front of
Carpenter, Daniel, Jai Sutton, Dylan Starkey, Darren Anderson and
Nick Hellowell.
Daniel Anderson showed real pace in the handicap races thrilling the
crowd as he set about reeling in the rest of field taking out the
first event and second place in the next.
There was close competition in the combined Senior B and C Grade
races between Nick Hellowell and Kelvin Rohrlach who felt the
pressure from Darryl Fulton in the 3 lap handicap. Gary
Carpenter (80m), in his first race of the season, held a 20 metre
lead at the beginning of the last lap of the handicap race with the
rest of the field in hot pursuit. D Fulton (60m) was first to
the line ahead of Adrian Wilson (50m), Hellowell (0m), Carpenter,
Nicole Goldring (40m), Rohrlach (10m) and Pierce Sutton (70m).
Jarrod Hamilton, in his first race of the season, had an impressive
night in Junior A Grade finishing first in each event. Liza
Wakeling, Charlotte Wakeling and Jessica Shore tried different
tactics each race but he was just too strong for the girls and will
be one to watch in coming weeks as he races with the seniors.
In the Junior B Grade 3 lap handicap Chloe Hellowell (80m) held her
lead for the whole race and put in a really strong second lap
pulling away slightly from Corey Gibbons (60m). Hellowell was
followed across the line by Bailey Kesby (50m), Gibbons, Dana Prater
(10m) and Connor Margaritis (0m).
Newcomers, Hudson Barsby and Leyton Gould, have grown in confidence
and showed they are able to match it with the more experienced Chris
Margaritis and Heather Cutting in the 24” bikes group. Holly
Farrell, Leroy Risborg and Scott Litchfield enjoyed a series of 2
lap handicap races with each taking out line honours during the
night. Cody Risborg, Braden McLeod, Jasmine Ledington and
Sebastian Hubner provided the crowd with some very entertaining
racing as they raced around the track on their BMX bikes.
