Cyclists Ride in State Team
01.04.10
Three
local cyclists travelled to Melbourne recently after being selected
as part of the South Australian Junior Track team that contested the
National Junior track championships.
Tim Fulton was a member of the under 17 men's team, while Jai Sutton
and Dylan Starkey competed in the under 15 men's division.
South Australia
looked poised to qualify in the top two of the under 17 3000m Men's
Team pursuit.
Fulton
was one of the four riders riding off for the Gold or Silver medal,
however with three laps to go a rider fell, affecting their time,
but still qualified third. The team put in a strong effort in the
ride off for the bronze medal against Queensland, who were faster by
two seconds, taking out the bronze.
Fulton
recorded new personal best times in three events - the 500m time
trial, 2000m individual pursuit ( by 3 seconds) and the 200m sprint
qualification (by 0.4 sec).
Fulton
finished twelfth in the 200m time trial, qualifying for the sprint
rounds, but was unfortunately beaten by a Victorian rider in round
one.
In the under
15 men's 200m time trial, Dylan Starkey recorded a time of 12.794
seconds which was 0.4 seconds faster than his previous best time in
this event and 0.7 seconds behind the fastest rider. This put
Starkey in fourteenth place and through to the first round of
sprints, while Jai Sutton just missed out on qualifying for the
sprints, finishing eighteenth in a time of 13.600sec.
In the 2000m
Individual Pursuit, Starkey finished eleventh in a time of 2.39.741
minutes, a new personal best time by two seconds, while Sutton came
fifteenth, recording a time of 2:42.956 minute. Sutton also recorded
a time of 39.51sec in the 500m time trial and in the scratch race
came eighth, being the first South Australian rider to finish
